Gogo promoted to Division Two
The 2017 Ramadhan Cup 16th edition champions, Gogo Boys FC, have been promoted to participate in the Nairobi West Division Two league. The Lancent sponsored club got promotion after thrashing Kibera Soccer Talent by 2-1 in the final to lift the Ramadhan Cup for the 2nd time.
The team’s accomplishment will see them participate in Division Two league in the next season. Wilberforce Chisika, the Assistant coach, expressed his happiness for the great achievement of the team. Benjamin Kipruto, the teams’ coach, lauded the team for registering a big improvement compared to last season.
However, he admitted their challenges of a playing ground and bonuses to motivate the players. “We are grateful to our sponsors Lancent. They are trying their best to pay the players’ allowances though the financial support is still not enough,” Kipruto said.
“Football requires many things that is why we cannot depend on Lancent alone. If there are individuals or organizations willing to come on board, our door is open. We intend to make new signings to revamp our current squad ahead of the next season,” he added.
Gogo amassed 16 wins, seven draws but lost 6 points to emerge the winner with 56 points in the entire NWRL league. Kibera-based club top scorer (18 goals) and Ramadhan Cup best player, Hillary Shirao, recalled that they kicked off the season with a low performance before recovering to be the best team to reckon with.
“I thank God last season was good. I managed to net 18 goals in the league competition. My target was to score 30 goals but unfortunately, I got an injury which lasted for weeks,” said Shirao. “Our aim is to clinch the Nairobi West Division 2 league championship next season before our opponents learn our techniques,” he added.
