AFC Leopard Youth (Cubs) trashed Kibera Lexus by 4-1 to finish 3rd in the Nairobi West Regional league with 55 points behind the league champions UoN Tandaza FC and 2nd placed Gogo Boys in a match played at Woodley ground. AFC utilized open chances in the 20th minute to score their opening goal.
Two minutes later, Leopard’s attacking midfielder Charles Ouma, sent a heavy shot that caught Lexus goalkeeper offguard 40 yards from goal stick, to score the second goal. In the 32nd minute, 10 times Sportpesa Shield Cup winner, junior team skipper Madegwa Valdo, converted a penalty to register his name in the score sheet.
The centre referee gave out the penalty after Kibera based keeper Dennis Juma, roughed up the goal scorer inside the box. Tried fighting back Coach Frederick Odhiambo’s Lexus, made several attacks to score their first goal before the end of the first half, but their efforts were futile as the first half ended 2-0.
At the start of the 2nd half, George Onyango pressured AFC defenders to net the first goal at the 48th minute when he fired the ball few yards from AFC’s keeper Kevin Mwagona backyard. Lexus got a golden chance to equalize the 2nd goal but unfortunately, the team’s winger lost the ball despite remaining being face-to-face with the goalkeeper. Lexus’ hope to equalize the goals was cut short at the 74th minute when Makhoha Givan, tapped in the cross from Kevin Otieno to score a 3rd goal to seal 3 points in the league.
Cubs’ substitute, Achuka Clark, punished Lexus for their defenders’ blunders, netting the final goal 7 minutes before the final whistle. It was the 4th goal that silenced Kibera Lexus and the entire technical bench. Dennis Juma alias ‘Ospina’, saved the last goal shot by Kevin Omondi.
